Gallery 1: The Journeys Begin

The Journey Begins gallery will introduce the visitor to Mi’kmaw worldviews and concepts, immersing the visitor in a Mi’kmaw sense of time, space, and life.

This gallery space will prepare visitors for their journey through the Centre, using sensory imagery that will be continued throughout exhibit spaces. The visitor will be invited to listen to our Elders sharing some of their life experiences, such as living on the land, day-to-day ways of life, and the places that are significant to them. Visitors will be encouraged to explore the exciting opportunities that lie ahead in the following exhibition galleries and learning spaces.

Visitors will have the opportunity to gather around Elder Douglas Knockwood and listen to his stories about the Mi’kmaw community in Newville Lake, along with other life stories.
